Call for Open Collaboration
By · CommentsSunday’s session “Final Tech Collaboration – Open Exchange of Thoughts & Idea Sharing” is where we’d like to see some great stuff people are doing with their sites that is unique and worth sharing with others. If you would like to present something during this time, please email regionalconference @ jetaaportland.com.
Any of the other sessions too – if you would like to share something at during the conference pertaining to one of the conference sessions, please let us know. Examples are great resources that would benefit JETAA chapters. We all have great stuff to share but we need to keep it relevant.
Reminder: Wiki Enabled Pages
By · CommentsJust a quick reminder to try out the wiki-enabled pages
Since this is a working conference, everyone should have received a log in and password to be a “wiki editor” for the regional conference site. This will grant you access to make changes in real time to the pages on the site.
The goal is to have everyone working together and adding information during the session for easier collaboration. We’ve set up a Wiki Test page for everyone to test out and play around with before the conference.
- You will receive an email with your username and password along with a link to the log in page.
- Once logged in, select the pages in the top left and click on the “wiki (test page)“.
Contact us know if you have any questions.
“Working Conference” Concept and Approach
By · CommentsWe’d like to remind everyone of a few important points for the conference prior to arrival. We have dubbed the Technology Regional Conference a “working conference” because our goal for the conference is to provide a foundation for technology protocols and framework that can be scaled across to all chapters in the US and Canada, as well as adopted by chapters internationally. Unlike other JETAA conferences you may have attended in the past that feature open discussion of ideas, this conference will bias documentation and action.
Ideas come from all of us, but the work into documenting our ideas is also a responsibility we share. If, for example, we are discussing chapters that don’t have particular functionality for their websites, instead of assigning action items to follow the conference, we expect delegates to help integrate this functionality to those websites for those chapters. If we are discussing how not all JETAA chapters have Facebook Groups pages, we would expect that everyone in attendance roll up their sleeves and make sure that all chapters have Facebook Groups pages by the end of your session.
We also want to document the conference. Actually, we want all of you to help document the conference. We will have official note takers, but we also want our delegates contributions to document the work that is done, discussions and important points for JETAA to know, questions that need to be answered following the conference, etc. Everyone should have received a login to the wiki and will be encouraged to contribute to the wiki during the conference. For those who are inexperienced with wiki’s, they are very friendly collaboration environments. Let regionalconference@jetaaportland.com know and we will schedule a quick walkthrough on Saturday prior to when the sessions start.
It is very important that everyone adhere to the prerequisites for the conference. Please try and work on the wiki test page. It is recommended (but not required) to download the software and be familiar with how it works. This will help to enhance our opportunities with respect to documentation and action. Come prepared because we really can’t afford the time to catch anyone who hasn’t finished the prerequisites for the conference.
Time will be tight and the eyes of JETAA are on us. There are 11 chapters attending the conference, including CLAIR representatives from Tokyo and New York, and many more following the conference online/Facebook/Twitter. Let’s put our heads down and deliver results – stay focused, document and execute. We may table some discussions for follow up after the conference if we don’t have the resources or ability to answer. We will have little choice given the day and half to accomplish all the things we need to for the conference.
See you in Portland everyone! (or online wherever you are!)
Updated: Delegate Prerequisites
By · CommentsThe 2010 JETAA Technology Regional Conference in Portland is next week. In addition to bringing a laptop, we’d like for you to review and prepare a few things prior to your trip to Portland.
Conference Prerequisites:
- Follow JETAARC on Twitter at www.twitter.com/jetaarc, subscribe to the RSS feed (or just keep checking back at the Website)
- Each delegate has reviewed the JETAA Technology Committee’s outlines for standardization: web site road map and web site priorities for both JOOMLA or Wordpress.
- Each delegate will receive a login/password with “Wiki Editor” access to the Regional Conference Web site. Make sure to login and play around in preparation for conference collaboration. Go to the Wiki Test Page here. Email if you don’t receive this by Tuesday (1/26).
Recommended (but not required):
- We are asking each delegate to bring something to symbolize your chapter to the conference to share as a door/raffle prize. This could be promotional items that your chapter has, work from a local artist, or a local delicacy. Be creative and let’s have fun with this!
- Each delegate try and bring at least one flash drive with 8-gig (if possible but not required). This is to transfer files as needed.
- Download the following free (or free trials) to be used and get familiar with BEFORE conference (as we will be making use of these):
-
- Camtasia Studio (techsmith.com) – create “how to” videos recording screen & audio
- Jing (techsmith.com) – quick screenshot or brief screen cast (5-min) and share
From Five JETAA Chapters to Eleven – An Amazing Turnout!
By · CommentsIf you notice the rotating image at the top of the site you will see how this conference has truly become something special. The first image is the original five chapters that agreed to participate at the National Conference. The second image includes all 11 chapters attending.
JETAA Portland is truly humbled by the amazing response and thanks all JETAA chapters for their interest and participation. We look forward to meeting everyone next week. Remember to let us know if you have any questions, send them to regionalconference @ jetaaportland.com
Saturday Lunch Menu At Jake’s
By · CommentsWe just locked in the menu for Saturday’s lunch at Jake’s Grill. We are breaking at noon for lunch, walking a block over and sitting down with salad and bread waiting for us on the table.
Lunch Menu (View lunch menu here)
They will bring around the menu and everyone will choose their main entry. We are guaranteed to be in and out within an hour. We are still in shock as to how they plan to pull this off, but we don’t care.
For those of you not familiar with Jake’s, it is considered one of the top ten seafood restaurants in the nation. Jake’s Famous Crawfish has been a downtown Portland landmark for more than 110 years.
It’s Official – 11 Chapters Now Attending!
By · CommentsAmazing! We just received confirmation from the folks in Kansas City that a delegate is coming to the Regional Conference. This puts the total number of JETAA Chapters up to 11! Thanks so much for everyone’s enthusiasm and participation.
In order to qualify for funding for a regional conference, there is a minimum requirement of 5 chapters that need to participate. At the National Conference, we were fairly confident that we could get at least 5 but we weren’t expecting the amazing turnout!
It’s a good time to bring up that while we have over double the required chapters needed, we still only received funding for 5 chapters. We are extremely pleased to have put together an amazing conference on a short-timed, shoe-string budget.
Remember, if you have any questions or need any special accommodations or arrangements contact us at regionalconference @ jetaaportland.com
